The holiday of Chanukah is the most celebrated Jewish holiday and begins the evening of Sunday, December 22nd and concludes on Monday, Dec. 30th.Â
Chanukah is unique in that it is primarily observed in public, including thousands of public menorah lightings throughout American, including at most statehouses and governor's mansions, the White House, and locally, in Chicago City Hall. The Chanukah menorah serves as a symbol of our ability to preserve and encourage the right and liberty of all citizens to worship G-d freely, openly, and with pride. This is true especially in the United States, a country that was founded upon and vigorously protects the right of every person to practice his or her religion free from restraint and persecution. To raise awareness for the holiday, and to enable others to participate in this beautiful tradition, a large Menorah will be placed at the Logan Square monument throughout the duration of the holiday. On the first night of the holiday, there will be a public menorah lighting celebration open to the entire community.
